Question
I've received a permanent medical disqualification and a disapproval on my medical waiver with the AF Reserve.  My cholesterol was 220 - 20 pts above normal. My blood sugar was 10 pts above normal. I had a 100/60 BP...and a 54 bpm resting heart rate.  I weigh 183 and I'm 5'11". I am a 48 yr old male active triathlete/duathlete...run at least 15 miles a wk/lift 4x/bike 20-40 mi. I had a complete physical 2 mo. before and each yr prior to ... no abnormal numbers.  I tested with my local doc 3 days after MEPS...no issues with any of the numbers.  He says it was probably because I was on 3200 mg of fish oil for heart health after my last physical (prior to MEPS physical). I am now off of the fish oil. I truly want to rejoin the Air Force Reserve or ANG.  I have an impeccable military record while Active (8 yrs) and ANG (2 yrs) 13 years ago..none of this makes any sense prior to the MEPS...What now?  PLEASE HELP!

Answer
You cannot try again for 2 years, that is when the MEPs physical expires.  If you were denied and  waivers denied, there ois no going back until a new physical is authorized.  You can try to request an exception to policy, but with recruiting numbers high, there is little chance you will get it approved.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
