Question
QUESTION: My son was separated from the Navy in July 2008 with the following separation & reentry codes: JFC & RE-3E.  Since his separation, he got into some legal trouble and was convicted of 2 misdemeanors of "contributing to the delinquency of a minor".  These charges & convictions were a result of him being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  He is now attempting to enlist in the Army.  What are his chances of being able to enlist?  He has been talking to a recruiter & has provided all of the documents to the recruiter.  Is there anything else he should do to be proactive?  Or should he just wait for the answer from the recruiter?  The recruiter stated that they needed to talk to "their" higher ups about all of his documents before they could give him any further information.  Any assistance in helping him be proactive would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: Weird discharge for serving 2 years.  JFC means "erroneous entry" which means something was not right with his contract.

His legal trouble will delay his enlistment for a while.  Waivers are hard toget and he requires one.  he may have to wait a few months.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Just to clarify, he had not served 2 years.  He served 2 months and 2 days.  He was still in boot camp at the time of separation.  The "erroneous entry" was a result of the Navy diagnosing him with ADHD; however, he has never been treated or diagnosed with ADHD by a civilian doctor.  What is involved in getting a waiver?  How does he go about getting the waiver?

Answer
My fault on the 2 years part.  If the Navy Diagniosed him with adhd, then he would have little chnace of getting back in another service.  A waiver would have ot recommended by the MEPs Dr, and adhd is not waivable at all anyways.  History of is waivable if it can be shown he does not have it.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
