Question
I had turned in a DD368 about two months ago. Both my Company Cpt. and my Battalion Commander approved on the DD368, however, it still has to go to the TAG officer. What are the chances of my TAG officer approving the release? Does it really even matter if the BC and CC approved on it? Because from what I understand, the TAG officer has the final say, and the other two approvals are meaningless? Will my Captain's approval and my Battalion Commander's approval have an affect on what the General decides? Here is my situation. The Ohio Guard is highly over-manned. The recruiters are only allowed to enlist one soldier per month, and the ASVAB requirements are a lot higher now in hopes that less people can enlist. My unit is also over-strength. There is no pending deployment, the unit just got back from Kuwait/Iraq. I have been in for over a year under DEP. I have served 7 months with my unit. I received half of my bonus. Also, how long will this take? It only took a little less than a month for the CPT. to get the 368 to the Battalion Commander. For some reason it's taking longer to reach the TAG officer. Is he full time?

Also, if this gets approved, can the Navy recruiter turn around and say that I am no longer needed by the Navy?

Answer
It all depends on your states needs. most 368's do not get approved.

Also, if it is approved, you will have to repay your bonus, so keep that in mind as well, but don't let that stop you.  Your request is low priority for the TAG.  They spent money tarining you and now you want to leave, they will get to it at some point, but if you bug them for it, they will just disapprove it.  so be patient.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
