Question
Here is an interesting question I have about rank transition that I hope you can help me with. I know that the Marines only allow a person to advance to E-2 when they join and I know that I have to go to bootcamp again if I switch. Now when I get out of the Navy I'll have 4 years Time In Service and as of now at least 3 years Time In Grade as an E-4 if I don't make E-5 this SEP. Now the requirements for E-3 in the Marines is 9 months TIS and 8 months TIG, now I meet those requirements I mean I even meet Corporal now. So will I get at least E-3 when I graduate bootcamp or how does it work since I'll be way past those requirements because if I make E-5, I'll have 4 year TIS and 2 years TIG as an E-5. Thank you

Answer
Brandon:

Sorry for the delay was on a short deployment.  Back with computer access now.

With your prior service you'd be taken as an E-3 (LCpl) with a chance of promotion to E-4 in six months (after recruit training).

You'll need to talk to a Marine Corps recruiter for more information but that's the way it should work.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.

Experience

Field Radio Operator: MOS 2531. Served as a Platoon Sergeant in a Communications Platoon assigned to MEU Service Support Group 24 (Special Operations Capable). Did a hitch in the Army reserves as an 11B (Infantryman), 3 years. Finished out my career in the Air National Guard as a BioEnvironmental Engineer MOS 4B3X1, did that for a few years. I"ve been collecting and selling Marine Corps and other military uniforms, medals, and field gear since I was 8 years old.
