Question
QUESTION: I'm in the Army National Guard and on deployment, how can I enlist into regular Army?

ANSWER: Dear Joseph --

You cannot "enlist" into the regular Army while on National Guard status.  You can apply for an active billet with a unit that is short your specialty, right now.  You can apply to permanently transfer to the active Army, or you can wait until your National Guard service release date (ETS) is close, and you can re-enlist for active duty.

Good luck to you.  Please write back, if you have additional questions.  Thank you for your service.

QUESTION: How can I apply permently transfer to the regular Army?

Answer
Dear Joseph --

You complete a DA Form 4187 addressed to your Human Resources Branch manager requesting transfer to the active Army.  You specify whether you wish to continue in your current MOS or are willing to change MOS.

You must forward through the Brigade level commander in your current unit.  That commander may recommend approval or disapproval, but is not allowed to stop your application.

The form you need is available on the Army Knowledge Online document repository.

Good luck to you.
