Question
I'm interested in joining the marines. I have hypo-thyroid condition which is controlled by a low dose medication taken daily. I'm considering a cosmetic procedure that will take 6 weeks to fully heal and back to normal. Will either of these disqualify me?
Thanks very much for your time and knowledge sir.

Answer
The cosmetic procedure shouldnt be a problem. The thyroid condition could be depending on the severity of it. However, many medical conditions such as that are "waiverable" meaning that you go to a military doc and they deem that although you have this condition, you can perform up to military standards and therefore are granted a 'waiver' for the condition. For example, I have a waiver for the metal plate and screws in my leg. Hope this helps and best of luck!
