Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/Old debts & drivers license suspension

Question
About 15 years ago I didn't pay off some credit card debts.  The debts were eventually charged off and sent to collection agencies, but are now uncollectible due to a statute of limitations.  They also do not show up on a (standard) credit report.  Will these events hurt my chances of joining the Army?  Will they affect a security clearance?

Also, 6+ years ago I had my driver's license suspended for speeding over 100mph.  Will this hurt my chances of joining the Army?

Answer
During your entrance, you will be asked questions aout both.  On chargeoff, answer yes and put you were broke, they charged them off and you never paid them, since it was so long ago, it might not matter.

as far as the ticket, no big deal,  just claim your tickets, they dont care if your license was suspended.  they really focus on the last 7-10 years for security clearance.  As long as you dont have a long history of tickets, you should be ok.

The old chargoffs MIGHT affect a clearance, but doubtful, they focus on a credit report.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
