Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/Marine Marriage

Question
My husband and I got married in January while he was in DEP, set to leave for basic training in February (Marine Corps). I have 3 children from a previous marriage and when we filed our marriage liscence at the recruiter's office, he was discharged because of "change of dependent status" because my children counted as his dependents and pushed him over the limit. My husband is 27 and was nearing the age limit to join and it is his dream to be a Marine. So we got divorced and he rejoined as a single person and is now 7 weeks into boot camp. We had to file our divorce decree to prove that he is now legally single. We plan on getting married again the day after he graduates. I am concerned that this is going to be questioned because he will have our previous marriage liscence, the divorce decree and a new marriage liscence all with the same person. This is a legitimate relationship, it will not be a marrige for benefits or a bigger paycheck. We own a house together. I was willing to go through the divorce to support his career. The recruiter said that the Marine Corps doesn't care who he marries once he is a Marine. Is this true or will this cause trouble for him? I am afraid that it will look bad for him or even affect his career. Thanks for your input.

Answer
Josephine:

That's a first for me for sure.  But the recruiter is correct, they don't care who you marry once you are already in.  Shouldn't be a big issue and at this stage of his enlistment 'career' isn't really something he has to worry about.  Good luck!

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
