Question
Just had a question about re-enlistment. I went through a medboard after returning home from OIF 05-06 for issues with my blood sugar. I have had no issues for 4 years now and believe along with a few endo docs I know that I was misdiagnosed. I have an active lifestyle as a college student and experience no health issues. I want to do ROTC at college but will my Med Board affect this and if so how do I go about showing that I have no current health issues?

Answer
Dear Sean --

Your likelihood of successfully joining ROTC will in part depend on whether you were medically discharged and what your discharge characterization and re-entry codes on your DD form 214 are.

If you had an honorable discharge and a reentry code of 1 or 2, you can likely return to service if your medical exam at MEPS does not show a continued blood sugar problem.  Further, some conditions are waiverable, if you can control them, and they will not affect your ability to do your mission.

Please write back, if you have additional questions.

Good luck to you.
