QuestionI was recently approved for a ground waiver with help from my OSO. I had scoliosis surgery about 4 1/2 years ago and have made a full recovery. I run track, play basketball, and have no complaints or pain about my back. I was hoping for a flight waiver as that is what I really want to do with my career. Unfortunately, I was informed that a flight waiver would never be possible. I've heard success stories about other people with rods who have gotten waivers in the past. I'm trying my hardest to prove that I won't be a wash out. I almost have a perfect PFT and am working on my private.
My question is, if the OSO doesn't look into getting a flight waiver, who should I then contact? I've been seen by a flight surgeon who gave me a mixed response, but ultimately concluded no. If another flight surgeon were to see me and say yes, would that make all the difference?
AnswerCongrats on getting your ground waiver! As for the flight waiver, second and third opinions are always reccommended. However, if one flight surgeon said no, then its pretty hard to get around that. The OSO, if he is doing his job correctly, will try his best to get you into the program that YOU want. Try to see another doc, get that second opinion and take it from there. Best of luck and semper fi.
