Question
My husband just moved to Japan on Orders. We were under the impression that we could go since it says dependents allowed. We are now told he must get command sponsorship. Can you help us out. His new unit is being a little stuborn. What documents do I need to send to him. Also I have children from a previous marriage. I have joint custody, he signed for them to get a passport. Do I need to get anything else from him. And do you know how long this process usually takes. And lastly, how am I able to find out how much of my household goods I can take with me.

Thanks so much

Answer
This seems odd just because if you've been married for a while and are registered in DEERS you should appear on his orders along with your kids. You need to show custody documents and a marriage license for command sponsorship. Also, you and your kids will need passports. Check with a transportation office near you or have your husband check the allowance for moving. It is rank based...

Expertise

I am currently an active duty Army Captain in the Military Police Field. I have been enlisted (Military Intelligence) and attended The United States Military Academy at West Point. I can answer questions related to the Army, posting, jobs, lifestyle, workings... pretty much anything you can throw at me with the exception of very specific recruting or medical questions. I have no expertise in what it takes to get in the military other than the fact that I, myself, joined at one point in time.

Experience

I have experience in both deployed and garrision environments as a Military Police Officer.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Science in Arabic and French from United States Military Academy at West Point.
