Question
Hi,
i am a junior in high school and am considering a life in the military. I would really like to be a PJ but i've done a lot of research and family life does not seem too good for the job. I want my family to be able to stay in one town, rather than moving around with me. (being a junior in high school i know how pissed off my kids would be if they had to leave their friends).
I don't know if this is even possible, but is there a job similar in mission and objective to Pararescue, yet more family friendly?  (obviously the family life wont be too good if daddy comes home in a body bag)
I'm not too keen on being an infantryman or pilot or tank driver.
Maybe a job in the National Guard that is similar to Pararescue?
Thank you so much for your time, i appreciate it.

Answer
If these are your concernes, no military branch is right for you.  ALL military jobs are dangerous to a point, let no one tell you different.  NO JOB IS SAFE.  Active military travels ALOT.

National Guard not so much, but they do deploy, as well as reservists.  Both live in whatever town they want, but can deploy anywhere in the world to combat, peacekeeping or humanitarian missions.

Joining the military is a sacrifice for you and your family where you are willing to put your life and safety on the line for your mission.

Think about it.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
