Question
Hi, I am 25 and got a dui when I was 23. I want to join the sf for the army and only sf! I am not a desk jockey! Will my dui prohibit me from sf because of my dui or can it be waived?

Answer
Hi,

A DUI isn't necessarily a disqualifier for the 18x (special forces) program, but it is a disqualifying factor for enlistment in the Army (see: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/armyjoin/a/criminal.-u59.htm). Therefore, it would have to be waivered.

Whether or not waivers are considered or approved depends a lot on how bad a service needs new recruits. For the past few months, all of the services (including the Army) have exceeded their recruiting goals, so it might be rather hard to get a Moral waiver right now.

Hope this helps!
