QuestionI am an E-6 in the navy with 15 years of active duty services. I have my AA degree and currently in the process of completing my BS in psychology. I was hoping to become and officer once I finished my BS but since I am over the age of 35 there are no programs other than LDO that I can try out for. I was wondering if I could cross over into the Army for the Warrant Officer program and if I will be able to keep my rank up until I pass the Warrant Officer school? Also would I have to complete my current enlistment before I can cross over or can I go ahead now and put in a request to cross over?
AnswerDear Celeste --
Yes, you can apply for the Blue to Green Warrant Officer program now with your associates degree. You do not have to complete your current enlistment, as long as the Navy will release you to the Army.
You will not maintain your rank, as all trainees revert to or are promoted to E-5 when they enter their warrant officer candidate school. However, you will retain your current base pay.
You can also wait for your bachelors degree, and do Blue to Green for Officer Candidate School. Since you have active service, you can request an age waiver to be commissioned older than 35.
Please write back, if you have additional questions. Good luck to you. Thank you for your service.
