Question
Hi my name is Danny,
I am currently interested in the Army ROTC program and want to become a CRNA through the army. My problem is, I am not a citizen yet, i have been a permenant resident for over 5 years and my birthday is in a month, so i will be applying for citizenship. But my birthday is in early october, and the deadline for the scholarship is in Janurary (my carreer counsler told me) and i don't think i will obtain my citizenship by janurary(it usually takes more than 3 months). My question is: is there any waiver the Army can offer me? If not, what is my best option to obtain a ROTC scholarship.

Thank you for reading this mail.

Answer
Hi Danny,

I'm afraid that you have to be a US Citizen in order to apply for, and receive an ROTC scholarship.

This is because ROTC is an officer accession program, and federal law requires all commissioned officers to be US Citizens. The Military has no way to know for sure whether or not you will actually get your citizenship, so there are no waivers for this requirement.

Hope this helps!
