Question
My Grandaughter recently went to MEPS scored a 42 on the asvab, she passed her physical and her interview. The computer went down so she was told by the recruiter that she will have to come back to get her job, ship date and finish her contract. He seems to be putting her off, its been a couple of weeks. Could he be waiting till October because her score was low.  Can she get into the Navy with that score, I have read they need a 50 for wemon though their requirements say 35. She wants to be a hull tech.

Answer
For a while, the navy required a woman to score a 50 on the asvab due to limited slots for women. I do not know if that rule is still in effect.  He maybe wiaiting until after OCT 1 for the entrance scores to drop.  He may be waiting for OCT 1 since that is a new year for recruiting and he wants an easy contract.  I do that as well, but I tell the recruits that as well.

I would walk into the recruiting station with her and ask directly.  Put him on the spot in front of his boss.  It usually yields results.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
