Question Colonel Howell,
My question is for my spouse. He is currently an Tech Sgt w/ AFOSI and Nov 2011 is when his enlistment is up and at that time he will have 16 years. Jake will graduate w/ his BA in CJ Feb 2010. How does he go about pursuing a career in the Army as an Officer?
Thanks so much for your response,
Ann
Answer Ann,
It's very easy. All he has to do is talk to an Army recruiter. The Army even has a program for just that very thing, it's called the "Blue to Green" program. A recruiter can walk him through the steps of filling out paperwork.
He should be prepared to answer what career field he wants to enter. Army jobs are sorted into branches under 3 main headings. They are as follows:
COMBAT ARMS branches: Infantry, Armor, Field Artillery, Air Defense Artillery, Aviation, Special Forces, and the Corps of Engineers.
COMBAT SUPPORT branches: Signal Corps, Military Police Corps, Military Intelligence Corps, and the Chemical Corps.
COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT branches: Adjutant General Corps, Finance Corps, Transportation Corps, Ordnance Corps, Quartermaster Corps, Judge Advocate General's Corps, Chaplain Corps, Medical Corps, Dental Corps, Veterinary Corps, Medical Service Corps, Army Medical Specialists, and the Army Nurse corps.
With his rank and experience I doubt he'll have any trouble getting accepted.
If he has more questions he can go to goarmy.com and chat live online with a recruiter.
Thanks to both of you for serving all those years, and wanting to continue serving.
Colonel H
