Question
I am interested in a career in the Coast Guard. How difficult is it to get in these days?

Answer
Hello Art,
Thank you for wanting to serve, the Coast Guard is probably the best service out there granted all of the services are great. As for entering the Coast Guard, my best advice to you is to run not walk to your nearest Coast Guard recruiter..Currently for FY09 all services are filled, but come October 1st (That is the beginning of the military's fiscal year) they will get there quota, and being that the Coast Guard is the smallest service we have less ranks to fill.  So I say run that way you can start getting all of your paperwork in order and get your ASVAB and Medical stuff taken care of...A few questions I do have are, how old are you and what is your educational background, if you have a college degree there is a different route you can take, if you are older than 27 the Coast Guard is not going to be an option for you.. If you have any questions please feel free to ask..
Thank You again for wanting to serve,
V/R,
Eric Ernst
