Question
I would like to join the coast guard or air force but during my teen years I was involved in a drive-by shooting, someone had shot out of the car I was driving. I was charged with 4 attempts of murder, shooting in an inhabited dwelling, and assault with a deadly weapon/ firearm. Do I even qualify for a waiver? I was sixteen when it happened, I am now 20 with an A.S degree.

Answer
Hi Jennefer,

To be truthful, probably not.

In addition to being a military service, the Coast Guard is also a law enforcement agency, and -- as such -- have *very* high standards when it comes to criminal history.

For the past several years, the Air Force has *easily* exceeded its recruiting goals, and is not very lenient when it comes to criminal history waivers. This is especially true of felonies (even juvenile felonies) that involve violence.

Hope this helps!
