Question
Mr. Lewis,
I am prior service interested in joining the Air National Guard. I recently went to the MEPS for my physical and was sent home due to some papaerwork issues. The issues are that while I was in High School I had my appendix removed and had a surgery on my hand for a broken finger, and there is no documentation in the MEPS records. Both instances are prior to my orginal Active Duty Service. I have oredered my Depedent and Military medical records in the hope that the information MEPS is requiring is there. Is there any thing else I can do or paperwork I can get to satisfy MEPS. I am starting to run out of time to be able to join, I have a 1.5 month before I am to old. I am concerned that the medical records I have ordered might not have the information I need, or will get here to late. Thank you for your time.

Glenn

Answer
That is strange, if it is that long ago, then usually they will take statements from you.  Both are non issues for joining, appendix is commona nd a broken finger???  That really throws me for a loop.  Write a statement about what it was and say that no records are availiable since it is more thatn 10 years ago.  Hospitals shred old files more thna 10 years old.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
