Question
When i was 15 I got a burglary charge, since I was a juvenile all I got was 25 hrs community service, 2 letters of apology and a theft prevention class. I've spoken to a Marine Recruiter and as of right now they are not taking anyone with any kind of record juvenile or not. How long will it be till they change this type of policy back?

Answer
H Earl,

A burlary charge requires a waiver (see http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/moralwaivers.htm).

However, the Marine Corps is doing extremely well on recruiting for the past several months, and are far ahead of making their annual fiscal year recruiting goal (see: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/2009recruitingstatistics/a/aug.htm). This is probably due, in large part, to the very poor civilian job market.

From their point of view, why should they consider waivers, when they have enough people, lining up outside the door to join, who don't need waivers?

I expect this to continue, as long as the US unemployment rate remains high.
