Question
I am intending to enlist in March and am not really certain which MOS I will be persuing as yet.  While they are unrelated fields, I would ideally like something in linguistics or mechanics.  I am wondering if there is any way to increase the chances of being stationed at a certain base, i.e. Ft. Campbell.  Are there certain MOSs that are in higher demand at Ft. Campbell?

Thank you,

Kelly

Answer
Well mechanics are more common than linguists and are more in need of being stationed at Fort Campbell. I think what you need to do is sit down with your recruiter and talk to him about the choice.. you can always ask for a certain station to be written into your contract as part of the deal. I urge you to look at something else, though. Examine your reasons for wanting Fort Campbell versus your reasons for wanting a job, i.e. linguist. Linguists take years to train but are highly skilled and have great skills that are marketable to the outside world. Mechanics have skills, but depending on the type of mechanic you choose to be, you could have limited marketability outside the military. If your reasons for wanting Fort Campbell are temporary (boyfriend, close to home) then I urge you to consider whichever MOS helps you achieve your long term goals in and out of the military.

Expertise

I am currently an active duty Army Captain in the Military Police Field. I have been enlisted (Military Intelligence) and attended The United States Military Academy at West Point. I can answer questions related to the Army, posting, jobs, lifestyle, workings... pretty much anything you can throw at me with the exception of very specific recruting or medical questions. I have no expertise in what it takes to get in the military other than the fact that I, myself, joined at one point in time.

Experience

I have experience in both deployed and garrision environments as a Military Police Officer.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Science in Arabic and French from United States Military Academy at West Point.
