Question
Hi,

I was in the Army for 4.5 years as a 91B (now 91W), or Combat Medic/Medical Specialist. I am working with an Air Force recruiter right now who is not clear on whether or not my MOS directly translates to an AFSC. This recruiter doesn't seem concerned about this; he stated that I have a very good chance of enlisting, and has told me that the Air Force will give me a list of AFSC's to choose from. My question is, I read on the Air Force website that the Prior Service Program is currently open but will not take those Prior Service that do not have MOS's that "directly qualify or convert" to an AFSC. So, do you know if my old MOS will do so, or if my recruiter is correct in saying I could retrain if it doesn't? From what I have read on the internet Prior Service usually has a hard time getting into the Air Force, and those who do don't have as many options as first time enlistees, so why is my recruiter so sure I can enlist in AD Air Force and retrain if my MOS doesn't quite fit? Just a little background--my ASVAB score was pretty good, with my overall score being 86 and my G being 122, and I had an honorable discharge with no disqualifying factors. I have been out of the military less than 6 years and I am a 27 year-old female. Thanks in advance for your answer.

Answer
Hi Jolene,

There *used* to be an MOS conversion chart included in the Air Force recruiting regulation, but the chart was removed when the regulation was revised in 2005. The chart is now only available at the Air Force recruiting squadron level and above.

However, the chart from 2005 (see http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/afjobs/blarmyjobconversions.htm), shows that the Air Force conasiders 91B to be equivelent to AFSC 4N0X1 (http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforceenlistedjobs/a/afjob4n0x1.htm).

Hope this helps!
