Question
I am planning on enlisting to the USCG reserves, currently I live about 50 exits from CapeMay so it always intrigued me.  I have about 42 credits for Network Communications Management.  I was wondering if there are any perks or extra incentives I can get such as, BAH and would you recommend serving active or reserve?

Answer
Hello Johnny,
Let me start by saying thank you for wanting to join the USCG, in my eyes the best service out of all the services.. To answer one of your questions right off the bat about the BAH. You do not receive BAH as a reservist. Only active duty members receive BAH. As for your College Credits continue with your education you may qualify to become a officer which entitles you to a lot more pay with added responsibility but it's all truly worth it. This is just my opinion but I believe the Active duty way is the way to go. You get to travel and see places that you normally don't get to see. There is not a bad duty station anywhere in the Coast Guard, you are always next to the Coast. I hope that this information helps out if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask me.. Also Have you talked to a recruiter yet? If you haven't I suggest that you do ASAP the start of the fiscal year for the military is October 1st and that is normally when the services get there quota for the year and considering the economy and the way it is there are people lined up to get in. So run to your recruiter don't walk.
Take Care and Good Luck,
Eric
