Question
My husband is currently trying to re-up. He is coming out of an MOS that has been phased out of the corps and is not available for re-up which requires hit to Lat move. The first package he submitted he had to change MOS due to lack of school spaces, he is not past the monitor stage and is at the last phase of approval or denial. The career planner said that if his package was going to be denied it will most likely be denied at the monitor phase, Is this true? He has set records in his squadron for being the youngest to attain a CDI and to become a CDQAR he has a yankee white security clearance and is currently stationed at HMX-1 and is a VH-3D Mech with original MOS of 6112 or CH-46E Mech. He is submitting for the only two really open MOS' in his field of Huey and Osprey Airframe MECH, it is really stressful to wait we have 3 children and want to re-up in the corps he submitted his lat move as early as possible on DEC 1 and then the resubmit was on DEC 17, Does the package usually not make it past the first phase if it is going to be denied? What are other options if boatspaces become unavailable for him to stay in the military?

Answer
Amanda:

Yes, monitors make the decision on weather or not to accept lat movers into their MOS's.

Also figuring on the Xmas holiday break, etc, you should be hearing something soon, but a wait of 60 days isn't unusual.

Other options are basically picking a different MOS.  That's about it.  If the Corps says he can't reenlist into what he currently does, and/or denies him his current picks, that's the only option.  Other than getting out.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
