Question
I'm 19 yrs, currently a full-time college student and was in a "full on..thumbs-up", state of mind for air force. During the recruiting process for months everything was going fine, like a stroll in the park. Then, as I'm about too sign-up for meps: she asked if i was allergic to bees, i told her when i was younger around adolescent period-time of my life. She told me i would be disqualified if i need an eipen, then i told her my sting history.

6 yrs old- i was stung, went to the hospital, everything was fine: given an eipen. in n out.

7 yrs old- i was stung, took the eipen n was fine

14 years old- i was stung twice nothing happen: seen a doctor and he said treat any further symptoms with bendryl.

haven"t been stung since 14: went to an allergist and he said, i"m not allergic to honey bees, bumble bees, wasps, but i have a mild allergy to yellow jackets. which is treatable with benedryl and if symptoms worsen an eipen is needed.

now my recruiter has me running around, getting hospital records, making appointments with an allergist and all kinds of stuff.

but, here is my main point! if I'm allergic to bees, am i really
disqualified from the air force? If so, I think this is a case of discrimination and outrageous. also, do u think my recruiter might sign a wavier?

Serving in the military is not a right but a privlege.  The military excludes people for all sorts of reasons, including being allergic to bee stings, if it's severe enough.  If you are in the field and become a casualty due to a sting, then you are no good to your unit, yourself, and those who have to help you.  Do what your recruiter says to do, otherwise you'll be disqualified at MEPS, it's just that simple, and there is no appeal once they do that.  The records you are being asked to gather will help them NOT disqualify you.  Listen to your recruiter they know what they are doing.  Lastly, it's not up to the recruiter to do waivers, that comes from Dept of the Air Force (in your case) after review by the medical people.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
