Question
QUESTION: I am a combat engineer in the marines and i really want to be infantry, i had a infantry seat but my recruiter forgot to put it on my packet so im stuck with this job. I really want to be infantry I think thats were i belong so please try to help me out.
     Thanks, Justin Chapman

ANSWER: I'm confused...are you in already or a poolee?  If a poolee, you are not "In the Marines".  You are not a Marine yet, so do NOT use that term.

IF you are a poolee, as I suspect, then talk to the recruiter and have it changed if it can be done.   Infantry slots at this time might very well be full up, so the Engineers might be the only open jobs.

If you are already on active duty, and completed school, there is nothing that can be done until you are eligible to lateral move, which will be in about 2 years.  Talk to your career planner regarding that.

QUESTION: sorry about that i am a poolee, i leave for recruit training June 7th and i have already talked to my recruiter about it and all the infantry seats are full, if their is another way to get that MOS please let me know
    Thanks Justin

Answer
Justin:

No, if the jobs are full, the only thing you can do is to back out of that contract and request Infantry.  The last recruiter I spoke with told me there were NO infantry contracts available until November of this year.   Tell your recruiter your concerns and what you want to do, it's your decision to make.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.

Experience

Infantry Rifleman, MOS 0311: 3 years. Marine Barracks Security (Marine Barracks, Annapolis, Maryland(not Embassy Duty): 3 years. Parachutist: MOS 9962: Got my wings in August of 1984. Field Radio Operator: MOS 2531. Served as a Platoon Sergeant in a Communications Platoon assigned to MEU Service Support Group 24 (Special Operations Capable). Did a hitch in the Army reserves as an 11B (Infantryman), 3 years. Finished out my career in the Air National Guard as a BioEnvironmental Engineer MOS 4B3X1, did that for a few years. I"ve been collecting and selling Marine Corps and other military uniforms, medals, and field gear since I was 8 years old.
