Question
i was recently discharged from the army for my previous broken arm. They gave me an uncharactorized discharge and the jfw code but now unemployment is dening my claim for benefits because my discharge was uncharctorized dishcharge instead of a general. i have documents supporting they knew about my arm prior to joining because i have a copy of there records they gave me with it in there. is there anyway to get my discharge changed to a general or other?

Answer
Honestly, I'm not sure.   Initially I'd say this was doubtful, if you disclosed the previous injury and they accepted you, then discharged you because of it.  Uncharacterized discharges are just that, because the reason for the discharge is something out of your, or the militaries, control.   You didn't do anything wrong, but couldn't continue serving due to (in your case the previous injury).   And you likely didn't serve long enough to get an "Honorable".

You can apply to have the discharge upgraded to an honorable through the Army, but the chances of that aren't great.  Still, worth a shot.  Try the Dept of Army website which will direct you to the 'awards/discharges' area and go from there.

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
