Question
QUESTION: I'm in the process of joining the United States Marine Corps, I plan to leave in June of 2010, no earlier. But I also planned to get plastic surgery on my nose before boot camp hopefully in either February or early march of 2010, so that leaves me about 4 to 5 months to heal, is this a proper amount of time to let my nose heal or should I not get surgery before boot camp?

ANSWER: Paola:

Have you talked to your recruiter about this???  I'm thinking not, since he/she will tell you that if you do that, you'll need a waiver and have to get it approved thru MEPS.   Why the rush?  Get it done afterwards and save yourself the headache.  And, I'm not a doctor so I have no idea if it's long enough or not.   But I DO know that it'll require a waiver and perhaps may DQ you from shipping.

QUESTION: thanks Sgt. after further planning i decided not to get plastic surgery. I had another question, I am a female and I am hoping to find an MOS that doesn't require me sitting at a desk all day. I recently read about the Lioness program and was hoping to get into something like that. What MOS should i get into to be able to become a Lioness, i was looking at intel or logistics, i'm not into MP cause ive heard lots of bad things from my marine buddies, i would appreciate any information.

Answer
Paola:

Good choice.  There is plenty of time for all that, believe it or not.  As far as the Lioness program goes, that is pulled from all different types of MOS's on an 'as needed' basis in the field.

If you are interested in doing something 'outside' but has a good chance of doing 'lioness' type things, look into Aircrew.  Females can do that MOS and STILL be gunfighters, except from a helo/Osprey platform.   Plus you get to fly.   The other job(s) that would get you near or close, are Combat Photographer and Combat Correspondent.   Consider those as well.   Intel isn't a bad MOS but unlikely to get you 'outside' the wire like you want.  Check into those jobs and think on them.

Best of luck!

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
