Question
Thank you for your time in reading this, sir.  I hope you can help me get some answers.

I was discharged in 2005 from active Air Force, with a "2B" re-enlistment code.  The circumstances surrounding this discharge were my admission to OSI that I had taken un-prescribed Percocet on 4 seperate occassions.  My home was extensively searched, my ex-wife questioned, and I was drug tested several times - all negative.

I know that a 2B means I cannot be considered for re-enlistment in the Air Force, but I was curious if I might have a chance of getting waivered into the Army or National Guard?

These events happened 6 years ago, and I was very young and obviously made a very dumb decision.  Does that effectively mean that any future in any branch is now unavailable to me?

Answer
Right now, you cannot enlist.  The reason why is the circumstances around drugs.  Right now no service is taking any type of drug waivers.  they can do this because od the high quantity and quality of recruits now a days.

It would also depend on the SPD code.  This would help determine the level of waiver needed when they start allowing those waivers.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
