Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/Failed meps drug test

Question
Hi, I have been looking over some information regarding failing the meps drugtest and was just curious with a few questions.  A quick background on me I tried to join the marines in Feb of this year, completed everything at meps, my asvab which I scored a 99% on, over 130 in every section.  Was ready to swear in and got a call the day before that I had popped for marijuana at meps.  I had taken a drug screen from my recruiter the day before going to meps because I had admitted to some usage a few months prior and was told by my recruiter and the doctor at meps that if you fail at meps you have to wait 45 days and you can come retest, not that I had even gone intending to fail any test much less the drug test but I remember very well being told this information.

Unfortunatly what I am currently understanding from everyone I talk to is that for failing the drugtest at Meps is pretty much DQ to come back and retest, despite what I was told.  I was in ROTC for a few years and passed numerous physicals, my dod physical, etc, never had or have(except the failed drug test at meps)a blemish on my record, and although I understand and take responsibility for my actions, I am a little disapointed at feeling so mislead about having a chance to come back and retest.  Is it really too late for me to go back and retest in any branch or am I getting recruiters who just don't want to take a chance on me?  I have talked with one in person, and 2 on the phone.

Answer
Since you popped hot at MEPs, there is no way you can join any branch of the militray right now.  we used to give waivers after 45 days, but no one is taking drug use right now and wont for a while.

The recruiters know the rules, and can't do anything with you.

sorry

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
