Question
I have asked this of two other experts and received no answer.  My son(20) was enlisted in the Army. 1 week before he was to leave for basic he was arrested and discharged. The charges have since been dropped(after a year of waiting). Because of this he became very angry and had a difficult time controlling his anger. His father and I had him admitted to a hospital for observation and he was put on Seroquel to manage his moods.  He has since been off of medication for 6 months.  He would really like to rejoin the Army or the Navy.  Will he be able to or did the fact that we had him medicated keep him out of the military?

Answer
Sorry late answering I was away for military training.
he will not be able to join for personality disorder, (the code they will use)  he would have to be free and clear for several years before being allowed to join.

Sorry, they are just really strict on any type of mental health.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
