Question
I was given an entry level separation from the AF at 18 years old. Reentry code: 2C. Now i'm 25 and would like to go back and try to fix my mistakes, i have heard that trying to get back into the air force is basically a lost cause. But would the army take me? i'd be willing to put my brains on the back burner and go infantry if it gave me the chance to fix the CF i made of my first attempt.

thanks,
jason

Answer
FIRST and foremost, being an Infantryman requires far more intelligence that  you might imagine, so I'd suggest, as a former infantryman myself, you re-think your attitude that all grunts are 'stoopid', since it shows a high degree of ignorance as to what Infantrymen are required to do.

Here is the applicable rule for your type of discharge:  "Individuals with an Air Force RE Code of "2" are usually ineligible to reenlist in the Air Force, but might be eligible to join another military service, if the circumstances which resulted in the code no longer apply, or if a waiver is issued"

What that really means is that the Air Force won't take you back.  (At this point they aren't doing waivers at all from what I understand).   Another service *might* consider you for enlistment as long as whatever caused your discharge is no longer an issue.
You'll require a waiver no matter what since you have that type of discharge.   Most services these days are very picky about issuing waivers for just about anything, as recruiting numbers are very good.

Still, the best way to know is to try, so go talk to a recruiter to find out.

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
