Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/one kidney

Question
I donated a kidney about 4 yrs ago to my mom.  I was told by my recruiter that the medical personnel said I was not fit to serve my country.  I feel that it would be such a shame that in giving the gift of live, I’m punished and banned to serve my country.  I have read on multiple websites that there are waivers that can help me to join.  Do you know what I can do, I’m healthy and I can provide all my medical records.  I took the ASVAB test and scored a 79, and I want an MOS in the medical field, "pharmacist"

Thank you.

Answer
Unfortunately according to Army Regulation 40-501 which governs the standards of medical fitness for entry to and service on active duty you are not qualified.  Chapter 2, paragraph 15 shows that only having one kidney either from birth or design thereafter disqualifies you from joining.  With an issue like this, there is no appeal.  If you still want to serve your country you can always try to join and work with the military as a Department of Defense Civilian or Contractor.

Expertise

I am currently an active duty Army Captain in the Military Police Field. I have been enlisted (Military Intelligence) and attended The United States Military Academy at West Point. I can answer questions related to the Army, posting, jobs, lifestyle, workings... pretty much anything you can throw at me with the exception of very specific recruting or medical questions. I have no expertise in what it takes to get in the military other than the fact that I, myself, joined at one point in time.

Experience

I have experience in both deployed and garrision environments as a Military Police Officer.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Science in Arabic and French from United States Military Academy at West Point.
