Question
I have a question about the asvab, and i was wondering if you are allowed to use a calculator, or a piece of paper, I've talked to recruiters and all of them never talk about the asvab they only talk about the service life and they never talk about what you have to score to join the marine corps, and to say the least its rather upsetting and frustrating. also what do you have to score to be a sniper, and what do i have to do to get into force reconnaissance. I'm 17 and I'm a sophomore, and yeah i know that I'm a little old to be a sophomore, but will that effect my becoming a marine? i would like to thank you for your time and effort to read this E-mail, so thank you and semper fi

Answer
Cody:

Ask the recruiter this question regarding calculators and such.  I know you can use scratch paper.

You shouldn't be concerned about the minimum needed but rather trying to get the best score you can get.

You can't enlist to be a sniper.

You CAN enlist for the chance to try out to be a recon Marine.

Last tidbit, you won't be able to go on delayed entry until your junior year of High School.   You'll be fine after that.  AS long as you graduate, that is.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
