Question
Since I have had the Lap Band surgery I recently found out that I am disqualified for joining the Army. I was wondering if I take it out for 6 months or so and prove I can not only maintain my weight but get healthier could I possibly apply for a waiver?

Also is there any branch I could join in the US Military?

Answer
Dear Josh --

If you have the Lap Band removed, and you are able to maintain your weight and meet the other fitness qualifications for military service, you can apply for a waiver for your various surgeries.  However, there is no guarantee that your waiver will be approved.  If your lap band is in place, you are permanently disqualified from military service.

Good luck to you.
