Question
Hello Sir,

I’m currently a community college student.I plan on starting ROTC when I transfer to a four year school. My elbows are a bit tight I pronate perfectly but, they prevent me from supinating 100%. I'm only off by 5 degrees when I supinate. I inherited this from my grandfather who was a WWII infantry soldier. I've hunted a couple of time and I currently play paintball. I have no physical problem shooting guns. I was also a basketball player in high school. I've got doctors letter and x rays saying that my forearms and elbows are 100% strong and fit and have no injuries or fractures. My arms and elbows look perfectly normal. The only way you can find out is if you ask me to supinate.

Is it likely that i won't need a medical waiver? If i do end up needing a waiver, what are my chances of getting it approved

Answer
This will be the decision of the Chief Medical Officer. If he finds this in the examination there might be an issue, but if you are able to perform the exercises that they want you should be fine. I wouldn't offer the information, let them find it. Sometimes if you get them concentrating on an issue thats really not an issue it creates more problems. If a waiver is warranted, he will be the one that will require it from the recruiter.

If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do.
