Question
Hello.
I'm a Private attached to the 3rd Infantry Div. which is currently deployed.  Recently I was issued an Article 15 after failure to follow a superior officers orders.  I was reduced from PFC to PV2, with loss of pay and 14 days extra duty.  I was wondering how long it would take to get promoted back to E-3.  My NCOs and COs believe I just made a stupid choice and should be be promoted back.

My record is void of any serious offenses aside from a previous Article 15 made almost two years ago.  I accomplish my tasks (Even those that are implied) quickly and efficiently.  My work Ethic and "Go-to" attitude has earned much praise and approval from Officer, NCO, and Enlisted alike throughout my chain of command.

Answer
When you are reduced a grade your time in that grade starts over at zero. So you'll be a PV2 with however much time in service you have, but no time in grade. You need a minimum of 4 months TIG to be promoted to PFC with a waiver and 6 without. If you are flagged this would stop the promotion, but otherwise you should get your rank back within 6 months.

Expertise

I am currently an active duty Army Captain in the Military Police Field. I have been enlisted (Military Intelligence) and attended The United States Military Academy at West Point. I can answer questions related to the Army, posting, jobs, lifestyle, workings... pretty much anything you can throw at me with the exception of very specific recruting or medical questions. I have no expertise in what it takes to get in the military other than the fact that I, myself, joined at one point in time.

Experience

I have experience in both deployed and garrision environments as a Military Police Officer.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Science in Arabic and French from United States Military Academy at West Point.
