Question
My husband is a 2LT and is currently completing his BOLC III course.  A few weeks ago he had to go to sick call because of inflammation and pain in his leg.  They diagnosed it as shin splints and the pain worsened.  So he went back yesterday and found that he has stress in his bone and they are going to do a scan to check for a stress fracture.  My question is probably the same question every Army spouse has in this situation.  Will they medically discharge him over this?  Or will they splint him, send him to physical therapy, and keep him on profile until he heals?  Thanks for taking the time to answer...I'm really worried about what to expect next.

Answer
Its unlikely your husband will be discharged over a stress fracture. He will be given every opportunity to rehabilitate the injury and continue his service in the military. I've had a similar injury that even required a cast and I was still allowed to serve.

Expertise

I am currently an active duty Army Captain in the Military Police Field. I have been enlisted (Military Intelligence) and attended The United States Military Academy at West Point. I can answer questions related to the Army, posting, jobs, lifestyle, workings... pretty much anything you can throw at me with the exception of very specific recruting or medical questions. I have no expertise in what it takes to get in the military other than the fact that I, myself, joined at one point in time.

Experience

I have experience in both deployed and garrision environments as a Military Police Officer.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Science in Arabic and French from United States Military Academy at West Point.
