Question
I am a 33 year old ER physician looking to spice up my career.  I recently began researching the Air Guard/Reserve and wondered what options may be available to me outside of simple physical exams (though I know that will be part of my duty).  If I had known about PJs upon graduation from high school, I would definitely have signed up.  I'm sure there is no need for a physician on a PJ team, but training with and teaching the PJ's would be a great experience.  Is there such a position available?  Are there any other opportunities that you are aware of that may fit my needs?

Answer
I know that the Air Force is always looking for doctors to join. There are alot of benefits that you can get by doing so. What I would do is contact the reserve recruiting staff. I spent 3 years as an enlisted assessions recruiter and didnt davel in the officer careers that much aside from setting up the referrals.

You may want to look into becoming a PJ yourself if you feel that you are up to it. Your present education and training will be an asset. You can also look at USA jobs to see if there are some civilian opportunities in the training area you seek....the web address is www.usajobs.gov

The easiest way to contact the reserves is to google air force reserves and call the 800 number. I feel that they will be able to give you the most up to date information.

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
