Question
Hi, I went to go see my Active duty Recruited last month.  I was told I was Disqualified, from joining the Air force over it.  He told me it was over my Pre-Screening for Meps.  I have not been diagnosed, nor taken any medications for 2.5 years and had the clear from my Doctor for ocd.  I'm 19 years old, and healthy and fit to join weighing 190-195.  The problem is after my Recruiter told me I was Dq'ed, he stopped returning my calls and now I am forced to go to the reservist.  Iv been talking to 2 of my pals whom are with the Air force, and both give me there recommendations for joining and also told me my rcter never had a quota.  The Reservist Recruiter has a quota, I saw her first before going to the Active duty for joining. My question is do you think my recruiter was not being aunest, and that of what I should do for this.  I seriously don't think OCD is a disqualifier if you have not taken meds for 2 years, and that others have joined with it and also more mental conditions then just OCD alone.  One more thing, I called up meps and they told me they would get back and never did (I really think my Recruiter never submitted my info to them).  If you could please help me, because there allot of blank holes that have not been answered here.

Answer
I havent heard of any rulings on OCD, but that doesnt mean that they dont exist. But I can tell you for what ever the reason if the MEPS DQ'd you, then getting that reversed is very difficult, more so if the recruiter has stopped playing.

What I would do is go see a different recruiter in a different town, and ask him to check into it to see if he can get you some better answers. All recruiters have quotas or Goals as they are called in the Air Force. The required numbers that they have to fill are not hard to find in this current economy.

Try a different recruiter or a different branch of service, just becasue you DQ'd for the Air Force, its different for all branches.

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
