Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/Skull Fracture/Lasik Eye Surgery

Question
Hello, my name is Amanda and I am 26 years old. I am interested in joining the Navy. I have 2 questions. When I was 11 years old I suffered a minor skull fracture in a go-kart accident. After the initial treatment of the wound I have had no complications. Other than some scars that aren't visible because of my thick hair. My recruiter initially told me not to report this information but I decided to anyway. Will this hurt my chances of enlisting? My second question pertains to Lasik eye surgery. I had the procedure done in 2005 and now have perfect vision. Again, my recruiter told me not to report this information and I didn't. I feel extremely uncomfortable with that decision. There's still time to change this information because I haven't gone to MEPS. Why would he tell me to lie? Does Lasik disqualify you?

Answer
Your recruiter is trying to screw you, when you see an eye Dr while in the Navy, they will be able to tell you had lasik, then they can kick you out for not telling. Your skull fracture is no big deal, it happened so long ago, but mention it, as far as the lasik goes, there is a simple fiorm for you to take to your eye Dr for him to fill out.

Tell your recruiter to stop screwing around.

Now, the Navy may not take you anyways as they are mainly going after High school kids right now.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
