Question
RESPECTED SIR I WILL BE A DENTIST AFTER 5 YEARS (INDIA) BUT I WANTED ALWAYS TO BE IN ARMY. I JUST WANT THE DETAILS OF APPLICATION AND THE MINIMUM POSSIBLE TIME TO JOIN ARMY. MY FATHER IS ALSO A DENTIST AND WANTED ME TO BE A DENTIST SO I THOUGHT THAT  I CAN BE A DENTIST IN ARMY OR AIR FORCE (NOT NAVY).
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?
CAN I BE SELECTED BY ANY EXAMINATION FOR DDS AND AFTER COMPLETION OF DDS OR WHILE UNDERGOING THE DEGREE CAN I BE A PART OF ARMY?
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
WHAT IS THE POST THAT I WILL BE DESIGNATED WHILE DOING DDS OR AFTER DDS ?
OR WILL I HAVE TO COMPLETE MY GRADUATION BDS (BACHELOR OF DENTAL SURGERY) IN INDIA ITSELF AND THEN APPLY FOR THE JOB?
AND IF POSSIBLE WHAT ARE THE FACILITIES PROVIDED TO A DENTAL SURGEON?
YOU SEE THERE IS A STRONG REASON THAT I CAN'T JOIN THE INDIAN ARMY
I HOPE THAT YOU HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS.

Answer
Kunal,

I applaud you for engaging a much needed career field. Before you can be a DDS in the U.S. Military, you first have to be in the US and apply for your resident alien card. Once you have a 10 year card, then you can apply to the US military service. Your credentials in dentistry also must be accepted by the Dental board or qualified accreditation agency for dentists in the U.S.

American military dentists have the same up to date facilities that civilian dentists do. They are stationed world wide to meet the demand we place on our troops across the globe.

As for finishing your degree in dentistry before you come to the states, I would say no you dont have to , but then your education costs may be less expensive there in India than in the US. There are many dentists & doctors who get their education and training in India and then come to the US to work and live.

Over all if you meet the physical requirements for active service and meet the dental qualifications, you entering the military is obtainable. There is also civilian dental positions that you can get into with out having to enter military service. The military hires civilian dentists & doctors as well.

If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do.
