Question
When i was in highschool i was diagnosed as being a Celiac (gluten intolerant). I have never shown anysymptoms and i am 22 years old now. The Dr. rated me being a .001/10 when it comes to the dieses. I have never felt sick to my stomach or depressed ect. ect. I have not fallowed a gluten free diet either, and i feel great and i want to Join the navy. I have read many posts of people who have problems with the dieses but none of people who have no problems with it. According to many it is an automatic DQ at MEPS. Is there any chance in my case that i will not be DQ'd or any chance of being able to get a medical waiver.Other than this i am in good shape have no other records of anything that would DQ me and a college graduate who would show some good military dedication if i served. Any input would be great.

Answer
There is no way you will get approved.  If you have NO issues with it at all, then I ask, how did they find out you had it?  If you do not dislose it, they wont know, but you are supposed to.  If you have no issues, then don't mention it and drive on, especially if you pretty much eat anything you want.

It is a tough choice, but if there is no danger to you, then don't mention it and drive on.  If it becomes an issue in the Navy, pay dumb and pretend you never knew.  they have NO WAY of finding out you had it before.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
