Question
QUESTION: Hi i'm a former active duty Marine, i am looking to re-enlist. My EAS was July 13th 2007. I wanted to know about the MEPS processing for my situation. And also when i got out i enlisted into the NG, however i was never released from the Marine Corps IRR, so i have been told that it was a fraudulent enlistment on the National Guards part. So how would i handle this at MEPS would i disclose this info to them? Will it be easier to enlist in October being that is when the fiscal year will start over? I need any and all advice pertaining to this situation. Thank you

ANSWER: Micheal:

I don't see how that's a fraudulent enlistment, personally.   All that should have happened was you got dropped from IRR and put on 'reservist' status.  Shouldn't be that big a deal. Of COURSE you disclose it to them.  But there isn't much to disclose, really.  You enlisted from the IRR into the NG.  Not that big of a deal.

Talk to a recruiter and get the process started.  Yes, October *might* be better, but not neccessarily.   I'd talk to a recruiter now and see where it goes from there.

QUESTION: Thank you for the quick reply. Well it specifically states the terms of being released from the IRR to another branch of service on MOBCOM's website, and those procedures werent followed by the National Guard. And i have spoke with a recruiter already, however i'm recieving all kinds of info about the High Tenure situation, and i am just nervous about trying to get back in because of this. I've been told that the whole three years i was in the national guard would count (meaning i'd have about 7 years right now) and in August (which is the end of my contract date for the National Guard) i would have less then a year to pin on Sergeant, and i know that the TIG requirments are 12 months min. for Corporal to pick up Sergeant. But then i was also told that they would adjust my AFADB and i would still have some more time. So with these factors weighing on my decision, i have tried to get a conditional release from the remainder of my commitment to the National Guard, but i submitted that paper work in January and have yet to hear an answer. So i'm trying to get this ball rolling like yesterday so i have a chance at re-establishing, and this time keeping my career with the USMC. And with all the speculation on the web about the process of getting back into the Corps (without the complication of the National Guard issue) it is very discouraging. I know the recruiter probably doesnt want to get in a paperwork show down with the national guard, but i'm trying to use every angle that i have, or at least find out the correct information.

Answer
It's basically just a form releasing you from the guard and allowing you to re-enter active duty.  It's not that big of a deal for them to fill out.   But it'll be incumbent upon you to stay on top of it.

High tenure is def. a concern though.  The sooner you can get it done, the better you'll be.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
