Question
Hello I currently don't meet the height weight requirement to enlist in the coast guard but I do meet the Body fat standard. Can I still enlist?

Unfortunately you won't be given the chance to enlist. The height/weight requirement test is administered first. If you are very close to passing then they will measure your body fat, otherwise they won't even bother. Personally, I hate these "standards." I've seen them discharge some very smart people because they couldn't lose 5 pounds. Is the helicopter pilot suddenly dumber and can't do his job because he gained 5 pounds? I can understand it if you were a rescue swimmer for example, but most people aren't. Unfortunately, I don't make the rules.
What does your recruiter say?
