Question
My really stupid son just blew his dream of AF. 17yr old great kid who got sucked into trying weed. Thought he waited about 30 days and took some stupid detox that football players used to pass highschool drug test... got the letter about 45 days but AF said NO wavers! Navy said No! Marines said NO! Army said 6 months maybe. Coaste gaurd said 1 yr.. Really no second chances for stupid kids.?He really is a great normal kid with a dream to someday fly... :-( His mom and I are totally devistated.
Should we wait for slow time of year and try Navy?. Why so strict for weed? Is there anyway he can get a second chance with AF or NAVY ever?  Do I contact leaders, congressman? He'll do what ever is required now. He really got a wakeup call and a real taste of the dark side, so to speak.

Answer
Well you can blame the economy really. When the military has a hard time getting people to come into the military, they will have a different song and dance to show you. Now that its a walk in market, the military can afford to be picky and more strict on who they let in.

My advise is this. Get him into college, make him get a job and keep his nose clean. The thing is that when things are normal... weed isnt that big a deal as long you dont show that its habitual....no more than 15 times of experimental usage on average.

Once the economy swings the other way, they will be singing a way different tune and the waiver writing will continue!
