Question
Hi my name is Erika and in December of '08 I used deferred ajudication for a class B misdeamnor for stealing dvds from wal mart. It was a stupid decision but i completed my probation with no problem. I am currently an undergraduate student and plan on going to law school and then I have hopes of joining the Air Force to be in the JAG program. Will my misdemeanor affect my chances of getting in? I've never been in trouble before and don't plan on getting in any trouble in the future. I am an A student and meet the physical requirements. I would really appreciate the help.

Answer
If you were trying to get in now... Yes. But since you are in grad school, once you finish and pass the BAR, it wont matter so much unless they change things to be more picky than they are now. They are always looking for lawyers to come in and serve which they will over look some things to get you in as long as its not too severe.

I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
