Question
I am interested in joining the Air Force Nurse Corps. I have had a GI doctor following me for some GI issues that could be irritable bowel syndrome but he suspects that it may be inflammatory bowel disease. He hasn't been willing to commit to that diagnosis though. I have never had any major symptoms beyond irritable bowel symptoms and they do not interfere with my daily life. I run marathons, work full-time and raise a family without any problems. Will I have any chance of being disqualified based on this history of being investigated for Inflammatory bowel disease? As far as I know, there has been no official diagnosis.

Answer
My opinion is this... You know what your symptoms are.. You haven't been diagnosed with anything... what problem?  I had a guy tell me in an interview once that his mother said he had this problem... I said did a doctor tell you that you had this problem... he said no.... then you dont have it until its officially in your record diagnosed by a doctor. I have symptoms of not being able to remember where my car keys are.... doesn't mean I have Alzheimer's... Right?
