Question
Here is the situation.
My sister in law is currently going through a divorce with her husband who is a Marine. He is a Sgt. May 5th she left home because he assaulted her, and she decided enough abuse and filed for a divorce. She is going through the divorce proceedings. He made threats to her numerous times the first two weeks she was gone. She filed PPO. The night she left home from the assault the police were called and she has a domestic violence case right now. She is wondering how does the military find out about his pending domestic violence charges? This is in a civilian court. If they charge him with the misdemeanor does it then go to Military court afterwards? The status on his domestic violence charges is that there is a warrant issued for his arrest (he left the scene the night she left) and has until 7/29/2010 to "turn himself in" with the arraignment date set at 7/29/2010. We just didnt know how does his commanding officer find out eventually? How will the military know he has a warrant out for his arrest?

Thank you kindly,
Kelli

Answer
Well if the Law enforcement agency knows hes a Marine, they will get with the base and let them know they have filed charges with the Military Police unit there. The police there can contact his unit commander to notify him that hes being charged. He will order him to do so. If she has that information, she can notify them as well.
